|I am in band that played The Desert Rose Casino for four years, during that time I have witnessed a sloppy, corrupt organization, the accomodations were shoddy, the casino cannot keep an employee employed for more than a month since the tribe is very political and family tied. They all talk poorly of each other behind their backs and if you have any sort of a legitimate complaint, you will be fired. They have made false accusations and cancelled several dates without proper reasons. They change ownership every other month because they are fueding amongst themselves and I can honestly say in four years, I have never won anything from their slots. Also, several people in power have been caught embezzling in the past. I would not trust these crooks with my most hated enemies well being. Some of them are drunk during business hours. The last time I was there , the owner was stinking drunk and was very rude to the band and then proceeded to fire us on the grounds that we complain too much about the amount of rooms promised and amount given, when all we were asking for was what our agreement called for. We had just returned to playing the club again after last year when one of the employees made false allegations and got us fired which led to the local townspeople boycotting their venue forcing them to have us back. The employee is family and was never reprimanded even though she was obviously wrong and caused financial stress for the band. I would not recommend wasting your money here. The casino has squandered their earnings and given nothing back to the customers OR employees. After three years of loyal service, I have seen very little improvement compared to several other casinos that have built hotels and added large entertainment venues and restaraunts while The desert rose remains and a cancer on the city of Alturas and the good people in it. Ask anyone who lives there or has been fired unethically/unfairly
|Desert rose is a funky little casino, when you first pull up you wonder if " this is really it " I mean seriously just a handful of portable trailers linked together. But I have to say hands down the most fun I ve ever had at a native american casino. Reasonable drink prices, and tasty snack bar as well as some decent cover bands on friday night. The friendly locals really made it though, everybody seemed to be more community minded, one of the employees even lent me a few of his personal cigarettes when I was out. As far as the gaming only about 100 slots but good variety and seemed to be a pretty good payout for so few, me and a guy next to me came out about 300 ahead and another nearby did a 1000 over a few hours. Rating for appearance 1... yea it aint much. For gaming 7, and for overall cool vibe a 10... I ll average those to an 8 All I can say is dont always judge a book by its cover||8|

|Alturas Casino, also known as the Desert Rose is one mile from US 395 on county road 56. There were some signs on the highway, but more would help first time visitors to find the casino. They have two blackjack tables and 84 slot machines. They do have a few Wheel of Fortune machines and I did not have to wait at 5 Pm on Friday! I had a good Bacon Lettuce Tomato Sandwich (BLT) from the snack bar. The casino is sort of cramped
I did not join the club because I did not see any signs where to join. I only found out about their club reading a brochure I picked up there. The Desert Rose is starting construction on a new casino that will have much more space.
