| Review | Rate | | I like Oaks a lot. Food is pretty good. Rake is by hand not hour. | 8 | | Again fairly seedy location with inadequate parking. Bring your beater car. | 5 | | The Oaks club is one of the nicest cleanest clubs in the whole bay area, i've been to them all. Their food is awsome and thier staff is excellant, ask for COLE tell him gummy sent your and he'll give your a free deck of cards and maybe ashtray. Its a family affair at a stand up place thats why i can call oaks a place to play with my friends. | 9 | | As of: July 2005
They charge rake per hand ($3 + $1 jackpot for 3-6HE)
The bad-beat jackpot for hold-em is always at $15,000
$7500 to player who gets bad-beat:
Minimum Aces-full-tens beat by 4 of a kind of better, both hole cards must play.
They still have limits from 1/2 and up.
Hofbrau and restaurant, discount for players, try the BBQ pork fried rice.
Only limit-games, except some NL HE tourneys on weekends.
Most tables now have shuffle machines.
Omaha and stud also.
| 6 | | Always fun. Other review is correct- there are many tough players who come daily- a few nutjobs but quite a few pro- semi-pros. great place to sharpen your skills before hitting the tourist spots like Reno or Tahoe. | 7 | | The nice thing about the Oaks is that they
offer 1/2 tables for total beginners.
Overall, this place is ok, but not great.
The rake is by time, not by the hand, which
one can argue is better in that it's cheaper
per hour to play. But, compared to places like
Artichoke Joe's where the rake is a BB on the
button, I prefer that method. At least the
rake is your live bet, when you're on the button,
versus just money to the house. The Oaks collects
every half hour. $2.50 for 1/2, $3 for 2/4,
and $4 for 3/6. There are some pretty crazy
players, but by and large, they're a good bunch
and winning isn't always a breeze. | 5 |
